Safe Ride Solutions Helps Athletes

Just when I thought there wasn’t enough being done about keeping famous athletes and celebrities from drunk driving, I come across this article about Safe Ride Solutions, a San Diego based DUI-prevention service that caters to professional athletes nationwide. The service is currently available in more than a dozen cities where clients pay anywhere from $200 – $300 to be chauffeured around all night. A simple pick-up service is also available.

Safe Ride Solutions was masterminded by Gary Lawrence, a San Diego police detective. When Lawrence heard about the Steve Foley incident, he realized that something needed to be done.

Right now there are 9 NFL teams using the service with the San Diego Chargers as the biggest client – of course! However, Hollywood actors and business executives have also signed up for the service. Annual membership costs $100 per person. It’s certainly a small price to pay to be safe on the road!

Great Resource: Designated Drivers Association

One resource for drunk driving that I found out about is the Designated Drivers Association of San Diego.  Recently I browsed the website and came across some of these statistics from the website:

“Drunk driving is the number one committed violent crime in American today. Drunk drivers have killed more Americans than all American wars combined. More importantly, it is not a victimless crime. Nearly 17,000 Americans are killed and more than 700,000 are injured each year in alcohol-related traffic crashes. Additionally, drunk driving costs Americans more than $50 billion each year in economic losses. Each year, police arrest over 1.5 million drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol and on an average day, 46 people die in alcohol-related traffic crashes, accounting for nearly 40% of traffic deaths. Since 1999 America has experienced a 5% increase in alcohol related vehicular fatalities.”

I think it’s very interesting that drunk driving is the #1 violent crime.  If this is the case, then the government needs to do more to help this problem that has plagued our society!  Drunk driving is a very serious issue and needs more attention.

Another San Diego DUI Resource: Designated Drivers Association

Another resource for drunk driving that I discovered recently is the Designated Drivers Association of San Diego.   I took some time and browsed the website and came across some of these statistics from the their website:

“Drunk driving is the number one committed violent crime in American today. Drunk drivers have killed more Americans than all American wars combined. More importantly, it is not a victimless crime. Nearly 17,000 Americans are killed and more than 700,000 are injured each year in alcohol-related traffic crashes. Since 1999 America has experienced a 5% increase in alcohol related vehicular fatalities.”

The website didn’t site where these statistics came from, but I find it interesting that they have said that drunk driving is the #1 violent crime.  If this is the case, then we definitely have much more work to do to combat this DUI problem that has plagued our society!  Drunk driving is a serious issue and shouldn’t be taken lightly anymore.

New Discovery: San Diego State DUI Program

Recently I discovered the SDSU DUI Program. This program began back in the early 90’s in order to provide drinking and driving education, plus counseling services for individuals who have had first and multiple DUI convictions. Their mission is to help reduce the occurrences of DUI’s in San Diego.

There are six different program types under the SDSU DUI Program. The shortest is a six week education class on up to an Eighteen Month Program. In order to enroll in a program, you have to have an order from the court or a drunk driving citation. There is also a time limit to enroll in the program, so it is in your best interest to call their office as soon as possible. The phone number is 858-467-6810.

DUI programs in San Diego are generally pretty strict. I once met a person who was attending DUI classes. He told me that if you did not show up on time you could not attend the class.

Enrolling in a DUI program is one thing you should do immediately after being convicted of a DUI. Another thing I highly recommend is calling an experienced San Diego DUI attorney as soon as possible!
