Recently researchers at the University of Utah have done a study and discovered that talking on the cell phone and driving is just as bad as drinking and driving.
I’m happy that the bill to ban cell phones while driving here in California will take effect July 1, 2008. The study done in Utah has prompted the city and county of Salt Lake to ban employees from using phones in the work vehicles.
It’s also interesting to note that the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that almost 80 percent of crashes and 65 percent of near-crashes involved some form of driver inattention within three seconds of the event. Cell phones were a factor.
