I know this is “old” news…Former San Diego Chargers player Steve Foley pleaded guilty a few weeks ago to a misdemeanor charge for drunk driving. Last year he was involved in an incident with an off-duty police officer in which Foley ended up getting shot.
Foley has been sentenced to five years’ probation, a $1,756 fine and has to appear at a MADD event. He has also filed a complaint seeking damages from the Coronado police officer who shot him as well as the city of Coronado.
Was Foley’s punishment enough? Would the consequences have been different if he had killed somebody? Do you think his punishment is going to deter hime from drunk driving in the future?
Hopefully other athletes and the people who look up to Steve Foley will learn from his mistakes…
