Thoughts on Celebrities Who Drive Drunk

May 24, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I’m sure many of us have been watching Paris Hilton these days – and if you don’t know, Hilton has been sentenced to 45 days in jail for driving under the influence with a suspended license.

We’ve been seeing more and more and more celebrities getting caught for drunk driving which leads me to think that this is God’s way of sending a message to us to stop drinking and driving!  These people are setting the example of what not to do.

Are people even paying attention? Or have we become jaded by all the media attention that these celebrities are getting?  Personally, I’m tired of turning on the TV to see yet another celebrity face splattered on the screen for things that they have total control over.  But then again, perhaps these stories have life lessons to help us.

We all have control and the choice of whether or not to get in that car even though we know we’re drunk.  Haven’t we learned from Mel Gibson, Paris Hilton, Steve Foley, the rap star Eve, Busta Rhymes?…And the list goes on and on…How many more celebrities have to get caught or die before we get the picture?

San Diego Border Patrol Agent Sentenced For DUI

May 10, 2007 · Leave a Comment

For those of you who work as a border patrol agent, let this be a warning to you…

A border patrol agent here in San Diego was sentenced to three years probation for driving under the influence and evading police. This border patrol agent was off duty when he was pulled over and had a blood alcohol level of .16 percent – twice the legal limit in California.

The agent pleaded a misdemeanor charge, however it was denied by the judge. A great decision on the judge’s part. This border patrol agent should have known better. After all, his job to catch people who are breaking the law, so he should be setting an example.

When your life work has something to do with upholding the law, you have to walk the walk – and that means carrying yourself with dignity and integrity both on duty and off duty.

Isn’t it interesting that these types of stories keep happening more frequently lately? Or maybe I just haven’t paid enough attention. Regardless, it’s time for the government to be stricter about who they hire!

If you’ve been convicted of drunk driving here in San Diego, make sure to hire a professional San Diego DUI lawyer!

Do You Take That Breath Test?

May 1, 2007 · Leave a Comment

In San Diego, a preliminary alcohol screening test is completely voluntary, but you may suffer the consequences of being arrested regardless.  That doesn’t mean that you are automatically convicted or that you will lose your license.

On a side note – did you know that the officer has to observe you for 15 minutes prior to taking a breath sample?  That’s why you should try to be on your best behavior because the jury will probably watch a video tape of the arrest.

Anyhow, so are you immediately guilty for refusing a breath test or blood sample? Should you submit to one if you are stopped?  In my personal opinion, I say no.  Saying yes puts you in a more vulnerable position.  Leave it up to a San Diego DUI lawyer to take care of the defense!
