Another resource for drunk driving that I discovered recently is the Designated Drivers Association of San Diego. I took some time and browsed the website and came across some of these statistics from the their website:
“Drunk driving is the number one committed violent crime in American today. Drunk drivers have killed more Americans than all American wars combined. More importantly, it is not a victimless crime. Nearly 17,000 Americans are killed and more than 700,000 are injured each year in alcohol-related traffic crashes. Additionally, drunk driving costs Americans more than $50 billion each year in economic losses. Each year, police arrest over 1.5 million drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol and on an average day, 46 people die in alcohol-related traffic crashes, accounting for nearly 40% of traffic deaths. Since 1999 America has experienced a 5% increase in alcohol related vehicular fatalities.”
The website didn’t site where these statistics came from, but I find it interesting that they have said that drunk driving is the #1 violent crime. If this is the case, then we definitely have much more work to do to combat this DUI problem that has plagued our society! Drunk driving is a serious issue and shouldn’t be taken lightly anymore.
However, if you’ve been caught in the unfortunate circumstance of being charged with a DUI, contact a professional San Diego DUI lawyer to help you with your case.
