Recently I found out about the Chargers’ Cletis Gordon who was arrested for a DUI. Frankly, it’s a bit disappointing to see another Charger get into trouble with law enforcement. Perhaps you’ve read or heard about the previous DUI incident a few months back with Steve Foley.
What happened to being good role models for kids? Some kid out there may be a Steve Foley or Cletis Gordon fan who hears about what happened and thinks, Well, they did it…I can do it too! It’s not a big deal, right?
Wouldn’t it be nice to see a clean and sober San Diego Chargers team finally win a Superbowl?
Well, if you don’t know by now, a DUI is a pretty serious offense and not to be taken lightly. Seek the help of an exclusive San Diego DUI lawyer if you find yourself in this type of situation!

Lately there has been a lot of research on technology that is used to prevent drunk driving, including a breathalyzer phone. Recently I learned about car makers Nissan and Toyota researching technology that will disable a car if the system determines if the driver is too drunk to drive.
Engadget talks about this new technology and there are many opinions about it. For one thing, is there enough incentive to purchase a car with this type of option? Hmmm…I think that if you are a drinker and want to live, wouldn’t you want something like this in your car?
A commenter at Engadget brings up some good questions:
“I think the technology is a good idea, but it has to be thought out more. How often would the software for a breathalyzer need to be updated? What about the other upkeep?”
Another commenter says that this should be the standard for all cars. I did discover that there is a company called Ignition Interlock of Washington which is already being used for those repeat drunk driving offenders.
What are your thoughts?
Sure, I think that it should be a standard for all cars. I can almost guarantee that we would have less drunk drivers on the road if this type of technology was installed in all vehicles. However, if it’s only an option that we would have to pay for, I doubt many people would pay.

Not too long ago, SignOnSanDiego.com published an article that reports on a sobriety checkpoint in the northern part of the county. It was conducted on a Friday and Saturday night at 300 S. Twin Oaks Valley Road in San Marcos. Out of about 1,100 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, there were 28 citations issued for different offenses. Eight people were arrested for driving under the influence or drug possession.
From all the news reports I come across, it seems that there are more DUI checkpoints in the North County vs. the south part of San Diego. I came across another news report about another checkpoint in San Marcos a couple weeks ago. This one was at 125 S. Rancho Santa Fe Road. Recently, however, I did come across another news story about a checkpoint down in Imperial Beach.
If sobriety checkpoints are going to be more effective, they need to be done throughout the whole county of San Diego, don’t you think? They also need to conduct them every single day, not just on weekends and holidays. Anyhow, I still have yet to see any statistics that shows that this method of combating drunk driving is actually working.
If you find yourself in the unfortunate circumstance of being caught for drunk driving, make sure to call an experienced San Diego DUI lawyer as soon as possible!

One resource for drunk driving that I found out about is the Designated Drivers Association of San Diego. Recently I browsed the website and came across some of these statistics from the website:
“Drunk driving is the number one committed violent crime in American today. Drunk drivers have killed more Americans than all American wars combined. More importantly, it is not a victimless crime. Nearly 17,000 Americans are killed and more than 700,000 are injured each year in alcohol-related traffic crashes. Additionally, drunk driving costs Americans more than $50 billion each year in economic losses. Each year, police arrest over 1.5 million drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol and on an average day, 46 people die in alcohol-related traffic crashes, accounting for nearly 40% of traffic deaths. Since 1999 America has experienced a 5% increase in alcohol related vehicular fatalities.”
I think it’s very interesting that drunk driving is the #1 violent crime. If this is the case, then the government needs to do more to help this problem that has plagued our society! Drunk driving is a very serious issue and needs more attention.

The website didn’t site where these statistics came from, but I find it interesting that they have said that drunk driving is the #1 violent crime. If this is the case, then we definitely have much more work to do to combat this DUI problem that has plagued our society! Drunk driving is a serious issue and shouldn’t be taken lightly anymore.
