The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning hopes to make an impact on people about the consequences of drinking and driving. Three things the organization wants to emphasize are:
1. The possibility of killing or injuring someone, including himself
2) Long court hearings and possible jail time
3) The costs involved
This new program that was launched not too long ago hopes to sway men ages 21 -34 with commercials on TV, ads and increased patrol efforts.
“Any way we can get the message out about the seriousness of the crime of drunk driving, it’s a good thing,” Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Cmdr. Dave Egeler said in a statement. “I think the financial impact is a strong message.”
This is definitely one of the better solutions to deter people from drinking and driving. Everyone watches TV, so if there were more commercials emphasizing the consequences of a DUI, I think the message will eventually get through and make an impression on people. Marketing people always get us to buy things we don‘t need, so I’m sure they can think of a way to get the message out that drinking and driving is bad. It could definitely be something nice to test out in San Diego because I hardly see any TV messages like that here.
If you’ve been caught in the unfortunate circumstance of being stopped for a DUI in San Diego, contact a San Diego DUI lawyer to help you as soon as possible. Your license may depend on it!
